Disclaimer

This page sets out what codecrakerssolver.co.nz is, what it claims, and what it will not do. The two sections that matter most are the one about affiliation and the one about published puzzles.

We Are Independent

The site at codecrakerssolver.co.nz is independent and unofficial. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, authorised by, or connected in any way to Simon Shuker, any newspaper or publication that prints the puzzle, or any puzzle syndicate or distributor.

Trademarks and Names

Puzzle names, publication names, company names, and trademarks appearing here are the property of their respective owners. They are used descriptively, to identify the kind of puzzle our tool and guides address. Their presence implies no association, endorsement, or approval.

We Speak Only for Ourselves

Nothing here is an official statement or position of any publisher or puzzle creator. Where we describe how a puzzle is conventionally constructed, that is our own observation across many grids, and conventions vary between publications.

Published Puzzles Belong to Their Creators

This deserves to be said plainly.

We Reproduce None of Them

We do not host, scan, copy, or republish puzzle grids. We do not reproduce newspaper pages. There is nothing of that kind on this site.

We Publish No Answer Sets

We do not hold or distribute the official solutions to any published puzzle, and we could not supply them if asked. Publications print their own solutions, usually the following day, and that is where they belong.

We Will Not Solve One for You

We do not complete published puzzles on request, and messages asking us to do so go unanswered. Please do not photograph or scan a puzzle and send it to us.

Why This Matters

These puzzles are made by people who are paid to make them and printed by publications that rely on them. A site that stripped and republished that work would be taking something, and it would also be sawing off the branch it sits on, since the puzzles existing is the only reason a solver has a purpose.

What the Tool Does and Does Not Do

It Matches Patterns

You supply the letters you have confirmed and the shape of the slot. The tool returns words from its list that fit. That is the whole mechanism.

It Knows No Specific Puzzle

The solver has no awareness of any particular published grid, date, or publication. It cannot recognise today’s puzzle and holds no record of any.

Suggestions Are Candidates, Not Answers

A returned word fits the pattern you entered. Whether it is the intended answer is a judgment you make. Several words often fit, and the right one depends on the rest of the grid.

A Wrong Suggestion Usually Means a Wrong Letter

If results look implausible, the most common cause by far is a letter assigned to the wrong number earlier in the grid. The tool is faithfully matching what you told it. Our guides cover how to find and unwind that.

On Using a Solver at All

People sometimes ask whether using a tool like this is legitimate. It is worth answering rather than ducking.

It Is Your Puzzle

A puzzle bought in a newspaper is yours to do however you like, at whatever pace, with whatever help you choose. Nobody is obliged to finish unaided, and there is no authority adjudicating how you spend a quiet half hour.

What It Does Not Replace

The deduction is still yours. The tool scans a vocabulary for matches; working out which match is right, and what that means for the rest of the grid, is the actual puzzle and it stays with you.

Where Rules Do Apply

Prize competitions are the exception, because whoever runs one sets their own conditions. Check those before entering anything, since we have no knowledge of them.

Our Own View

We would rather you used the tool to get unstuck and then read the technique pages, than relied on it for every slot. A reader who improves keeps enjoying the puzzle. That is better for them and, frankly, better for us.

The Word List

It Is Not Complete

No word list is. Ours covers standard English as used in general publication. Proper nouns, place names, specialist vocabulary, and te reo Māori words are patchier, and a word being absent is not evidence it is not a word.

It Is Not a Dictionary

The list exists to match patterns. It carries no definitions, no usage notes, and no authority. Where it disagrees with a dictionary, trust the dictionary.

It Is Not an Arbiter

A word appearing in our list does not mean a publication would accept it, and a word missing from it does not mean a publication would not. Setters make their own choices.

Accuracy

Checked, Not Guaranteed

We verify words before adding them and correct pages when readers show us something is wrong. Even so, we make no warranty that the word list, the suggestions, or any content here is complete, accurate, current, or suitable for your purposes.

Guidance Is General

Puzzle conventions differ between publications and change over time. Technique pages describe what generally holds, not a rule that applies everywhere, and every page carries a date.

Not Professional Advice

Nothing here is legal or professional advice. Where we describe what published terms say, we are relaying information rather than interpreting it for your situation.

Use of the Tool

Provided As Is

The solver is offered free and without warranty. We make no promise that it is error-free, continuously available, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Competitions and Prizes

Some publications run puzzles with prizes attached and set their own rules about outside assistance. Whether using any solver is permitted is a matter between you and whoever runs the competition. We have no knowledge of any publication’s rules and nothing here should be read as suggesting such use is allowed.

Your Use Is Your Responsibility

What you do with a suggestion is up to you, including compliance with the rules of wherever the puzzle came from.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from your use of this site, the tool, or anything you do as a result of reading a guide here. That includes an incorrect answer, a disqualified entry, lost time, and any indirect or consequential loss.

This site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Nothing in this disclaimer limits any right you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other New Zealand legislation to the extent those rights cannot lawfully be excluded.

Availability

We aim to keep the site online and current but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Pages may be unavailable during maintenance or circumstances beyond our control, and content may be revised, moved, or removed without notice.

External Links

We link to publications, reference works, and puzzle resources where it helps a reader.

A link is not an endorsement of everything at the destination. We do not control external sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, privacy practices, or conduct. We do not link to sites distributing scraped puzzle content.

Advertising

This site is funded by advertising.

Labelling

Sponsored content is labelled. Paid placement is disclosed on the page rather than left to be deduced.

Independence

Advertising does not determine what our guides say. Advertisers see no page before publication, approve none afterwards, and cannot have unfavourable content altered or removed.

Third-Party Advertisements

Advertisements come from external networks and are not chosen by us individually. We do not endorse advertised products and are not responsible for claims made in them. If you see one selling answer sets or scraped puzzle content, tell us and we will raise it with the network.

Reader Reports

Word suggestions, corrections, and observations sent to us express the sender’s own view. Reader reports are the main way the word list improves, but a message from a reader is not a statement from us, and adding a reported word does not mean endorsing any claim made alongside it.

Fair Use and Fair Dealing

This site may reference or reproduce limited material for commentary, criticism, reporting, teaching, and research. Such use is believed to fall within fair dealing under New Zealand copyright law and comparable provisions elsewhere.

A rights holder who disagrees with a particular use should contact us directly. We would rather settle a concern in a short exchange of emails than have anyone assume bad faith.

Changes to This Page

We revise this disclaimer when our practices change or the law requires it. The date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use after a change means accepting the version then in force.
